What’s the latest from McCallister Sculpture? Lately, I’ve been focusing my efforts on larger-scale sculptures, like this steel rod viking dragon – inspired by my most recent trip to Harstad and Lofoten, Norway. (Pics or it didn’t happen, you say? Will post pics on the blog soon and update with a link here!)
This untitled metal dragon will be a three part installation, designed to be a one-of-a-kind outdoor sculpture (for dragon lovers/ mother of dragons alike! I’m lookin’ at you Khaleesi.). This is a preview of the dragon head, teeth, eyes, and a little bit of the horns. I hand-constructed a combination of quarter-inch and half-inch steel rods, and used oxygen-acetelyne to bend the metal and a MIG arc welder for the joints.
Stay tuned for more updates, and please let me know what you think so far!
Very cool!

Great dragon! You work very large! I only have room for smaller sculptures!

Thanks so much! I just moved into a facility that enables me to work large – a good move forward from my previous one car garage studio 🙂

Great dragon! I live in Wales, so I see a lot of dragons everywhere, but nothing like this!

Thank you so much! Wales, how wonderful. I’m in Arizona, USA and maybe I’ll start populating the area with them 🙂
