In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Monochromatic.”
My latest Minotaur sculpture is comprised of over 300 steel nails, and this photo is able to highlight all the hard work and details I put into its creation. I love this photograph because it conveys an ominous feel. As the Minotaur looks over its back, the viewer is drawn to its eyes made of Hematite (Hematite comes from the Greek haimatitēs, which means “blood-like”) as if to say “Even if you kill the Minotaur, you’ll never escape his labyrinth”.
How does this photograph make you feel? Would love to know your thoughts. Thanks!
Very creative use of both the nails for the sculpture and the photographic medium to capture it. Having seen many sculptures in Greek museums, that is exactly where I’m transported. Great job.

Thank you Dale, what a wonderful comparison!
Btw, I’m trying to go to your page via your name/ image (probably an avatar) but you have the wrong link so it’s redirecting me to eatswritesshoot.com, which is missing an S, so it’s a broken link. Definitely give that a look and I hope it’s a quick fix!

Thanks Ryan. You’re very welcome. I see your point about the link by the way. The avatar seems coded correctly but the name itself links incorrectly. I can’t for the life of me find out where this is configured however. Have looked everywhere. Not sure if it is WordPress.Com but will keep looking. Thanks again.

Watched… But funny enough not in a bad way. Almost like guarded… That’s how this image makes me feel…

Thank you so much for your feedback! The sculpture itself highlights the minotaur’s big hematite eyes, but this photograph brings them into a different light. “Watched/ Guarded” is a great description.

This is such an intricate sculpture. From the angle this photo was taken, to me the eye still comes across as a focal point of the sculpture. It certainly looks delicate and vulnerable to an extent – the gaps in between the twisted steel nails give me that impression. Wonderful work.

Mabel, that’s so insightful of you. Thank you for your thoughts, and I agree that the eye is drawn immediately to the twisted metal and then to the hematite eye. Thanks again for stopping by!

This is amazing. I like the thoracic region wrapped…like armor, but this guy doesnt need armor, he is so evil. It just makes him tougher. I am not sure i care for the tail. I visualize this with with the end more feathery like with hair, sort of like a witch broom. Hismthighs and arms suggest massive strength…certainly not what i want to meet in a dark alley with eyes glowing and horns flasing,in dull light. I love it, though!

Thanks so much for your comment and feedback Eleanor. You seem to know a lot about these mythical creatures and also have a creative mind! I hope you stay tuned as I have more works inspired by mythical creatures that I think you’d also be interested in.
